Many people have asked me this question. Naturally, they have a concern about how does it affect them, their loved ones, and friends. Also, how do we create it and how does it manifest in our lives? The concept of Karma is often misunderstood and can bring on feelings of fear to those ignorant of its true nature. It actually can be thought of as your friend, giving you important understandings necessary for further personal development!

To begin with, the word Karma originated in Hinduism & Buddhism and describes the force created by a person’s actions. However, with the merging of eastern and western philosophies and beliefs, it has become, in western culture, not associated with just one spiritual tradition and is now viewed universally.

Karma is the consequence of your choices. And the good news is, we are able to change our karma by making new and better choices! Fate has nothing to do with karma. We do not have to fear “cosmic revenge”, punishment, or a “payback system”. In Barbara O’Brien’s blog (buddhism.about.com), she stated that, “the word ‘karma’ means ‘action’ and not fate! Karma is an action and not a result and our futures are not set in stone! You are capable of changing the course of your life right now by changing your intentional acts and self-destructive patterns.”
